EllieBeans Thanks You!

Thank you to the many EllieBeans customers who have expressed concern regarding the present situation facing local Zimbabweans. As if the hyper rate of inflation and the suppressive government weren't enough, now Zimbabweans are being inflicted with a completely preventable disease. Cholera can easily be eradicated with a fresh supply of drinking water. It is that simple! Yet Robert Mugabe has denied there is a need for UN assistance and claims the health of his nation is just fine. It is a tragic situation which will get worse before it gets better.

Fortunately the Penzo studio/factory has provided all the necessary supplies in order to keep the workers and their families healthy. There is a water well on the property and weekly trips are made cross border for other provisions. Penzo is able to craft and supply their beautiful pottery even in these difficult times. EllieBeans is proud to be helping theses artists and designers by providing an economic outlet for their beautiful, one of a kind masterpieces. We currently have a large stock of Penzo available. Many items with brillant glazes in new shapes and sizes for the 2009 product year.

Come Ride the Rails..Birmingham's Rail District Market Days!

Birmingham's Rail District will be hosting an open house Oct. 11th from 10:00-5:00. Join EllieBeans and more than 40 other participates for food, fun and great give aways. Ride the trolley through out the district, stopping at four different locations. Enter a raffle, sample food and beverages and enjoy children's activities.

EllieBeans will offer 10% discounts on purchases all day.

Introducing Ngwenya Glass from Swaziland

Although the lazy days of summer are upon us, we have been busy finding new, one of a kind items from around the African continent. EllieBeans' philosophy is to economically support small, local communities. especially artisans using recycled, reclaimed, and reused materials. We are very excited to introduce Ngwenya Glass, an amazing line of hand blown glass from Swaziland, in South Africa. The best part of this beautiful glass, is that it is produced from from 100% recycled materials. The locals bring in pop bottles that are littering the roads, which is then melted down and transformed into whimsical animals, pitchers, glasses and wine stoppers. If that is not enough of a feel good story, a large percentage of the proceeds from the sale of the glass goes to the Black Rhino Preservation Fund, which has made a significant impact on the health of the Black Rhino population. The glass, as you can see is so clear, with very little air bubbles, it is difficult to believe it is 100% recycled.
